how can I exclude media from being imported, e.g. all images / thumbnails attached to the original source?

That's what I thought, but the settings are ignored - images are still imported. What am I doing wrong?

fixed it - the images were part of the post, so I added a line to the AI prompt to remove them during rewriting. thx!
