The error message indicates that the server is running out of allocated PHP memory while processing images using the GD library. This is a server-side configuration issue, not a problem with the plugin itself. To resolve this, the server administrator should

1. Increase the PHP memory limit

The current limit (512MB) is insufficient because GD processes images in RAW format and stores them in RAM during execution. Large images can consume much more memory than their file size suggests. It should be increased by setting in php.ini:

memory_limit = 1024M

After making this change, the web server must be restarted.

2. Check server resources

If the server has limited memory, it may not be able to handle large image processing tasks. The administrator should check memory usage and consider upgrading the server if necessary.

3. Check server logs

Additional errors or warnings in the PHP error log may provide more details about why memory is running out.

4. Try switching from FastCGI to CGI

Some versions of the GD library have known memory leaks when running under FastCGI. Switching the PHP execution mode from FastCGI to CGI in the server configuration has resolved similar issues in the past.

After making these changes, restart the server and try again.
