hello admin,

How do i create a "link" back to the original article source from the RSS feed? Is there a template tag for this?

eg; Original Article–> <some php code> or {source tag} <—    *added in the footer section?

Regards,

cyber1

Yes, you can use the special "####post_link####" keyword in the "Post Headers" or "Post Footers" sections. E.g.:

Login to see the code

Alternatively you can do it by means of simple code in the "PHP Code <?php .. ?>" box. E.g.:

Login to see the code

Hello Admin,

The 'footer' source is working, but I can't seem to get the php 'source' code to work:

$post['post_content'] .='<a href="' . $post['link'] . '">Source</a>';

There is no article and just shows up as "<p>Source</p>" in the actual posting.

Did you mean;

$post['post_content'] =$post['post_content'] . '<a href="' . $post['link'] . '">Source</a>';

or something like that (the anchor is not showing up)?

Sincerely,

Cyber1

Actually the following code is 100% equal:

Login to see the code

and

Login to see the code

However not all RSS feeds do have the <content> tag, some have the <description> (excerpt) only, so the proper code is

Login to see the code

I.e. you have to add the link to both content and excerpt parts of the post.

P.S. Make sure you have the "Post links handling" option set to "Keep links intact".

Hello Admin,

I need the links stripped but found using Post Footers still works!

<a href="####post_link####">Source</a>

thanks!

Ah, now I see it. Course in case if you have enabled the link stripping option, all the links will be stripped off. Thus the only way to add the source link is using of "Post Headers" and "Post Footers".

Hello Admin,

Sorry I was wrong.. this is an issue. Even adding to the 'footer' causes it to appear in the excerpt.I still think this coding is not correct.. we should not have the excerpt 'forced' into our posts. There should be a settings option for this.

You need to fix this so that if 'remove all links' is selected the "Source" link is not removed. Anyway this is WAY TO DIFFICULT for me or any customer to deal with the way it is..

There needs to be an option to add a "Link to Source" in the settings screen.

Sincerely,

cyber1

I don't think so.

Could you explain me how exactly you imagine such an option? For example:

  • Should the user be able to define the exact place of post where the link should appear (top, middle, bottom, featured image etc)?
  • Should the customer be able to set the text or image will be used to display the link?

Hello Admin,

I've reviewed other auto software.. there's always an option to have the 'source' link appended to the end of a post.. I'ts really not a frivolous request.. something that autobloggers MUST have an option for to avoid 'copyright' issues.

To answer the questions:

NO.. we need to be realistic here.. why would 'where' the link goes matter.. or even give a choice..?? it needs to be at the END of the post.. plain and simple.

YES, of course it would be great if the customer can 'customize' the link with text and/or an image (or even add thier own html like a <br/> tag.

I don't want to confuse 2 different issues here. the other being how excerpts are handled.. I believe somehow, the 'manual' excerpt is getting populated by CyberSEO without user's consent and this is completely messing things up.

For example, I just set up the following RSS feed: "http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_topstories.rss" to test with

The 'Manual' excerpt is getting populated along with the full post. This SHOULD NOT be happening and is an issue.

I believe this is an excellent product and would highly recommend.. but can you please fix this?

Sincerely,

cyber1

This is what "Custom Headers" and "Custom Footters" are indented for.

Actually you are wrong here. Many other customers put the source URL above the content, and even into the middle of it as a banner. They are ok with "Custom Headers" and "Custom Footters" however. Those who don't use custom PHP code.

Please note my answer above. You can do it all and even more via "Custom Headers" and "Custom Footters".

This is an absolutely misinforming statement. I believe, I'm explained it here: /forum/support-eng/excerpts-same-as-posts-how-do-i-limitchange-excerpt-size/

Hello Admin,

Thanks for taking the time to respond to each of the above!

In regards to the last statement, i checked and the 'manual' excerpt was being populated, and need to apologize here, as I was confused. I will utilize the samples you've provided for this.
