Hello Admin,

I recently switched my WP blogs to a new seo host and everything was running fine until this past week. CyberSEO is set to run via 'CRON' every 30 minutes, and all the feeds were running/syndicating with no issue for about 2 weeks. Since last Friday none of the feeds have run, now only showing "Next Update – ASAP", even though the CRON runs every 30 minutes (i confirmed this with email).

I see nothing unusual in the logs (such as SQL time-out) so don't know where to look to find out why the rss syndication has suddenly stopped. Is there a CyberSEO "Log" or "debug parameter" i can specify to determine why no RSS items are now syndicating?

Thanks,

Cyber1

  1. Go to your main CyberSEO settings page and find there your crontab line.
  2. Take the update URL from there (the http one with /?pull-feeds=bla-bla-bla parameter)
  3. Open it in browser.
  4. Check your feeds' status. Are they all still "ASAP", or their status has changed?

Hello Admin,

Sure, I went to the CyberSEO settings, copied the URL (the http one with /?pull-feeds=bla-bla-bla parameter) and now all the feeds are showing a 'time' under Next Udpate (and the "ASAP" is gone), for example:

Feed title      URL     Next update      Last update
feed1           xxx1      60 Min            0 Min
feed2           xxx2      60 Min            0 Min

etc…

7 new items are now scheduled.

Regards,
Cyber1

This easy test clearly shows that CyberSEO works correctly. The problem is in your cron which doesn't run for some reason. Contact your host admin to fix this issue.

Hello Admin,

The CRON does email me. Is there some log or something for CRON i can check (a text file showing print out) when it emails me the results showing what the issue is?

cyber1

Hello Admin,

My SEO host is very cooperative and wants to help but what do I tell them other than cron not working (as this appears to be)? How do they know what to look for with CyberSEO..? database? log files? server stats?

Here is their response:

"we are checking your databases, but we can not investigate issue thoroly. so please get back to us as soon as you get any update from your developer, so we combinely can investigate it. your cooperation is appreciated."

If you could please advise me what I should ask of them to check why CyberSEO is not working I will gladly do this.. I need your guidance here… can you please help?

Sincerely,
cyber1

Just ask the why the URL you opened in the browser (the one which is used to update the feeds) does not get pinged by cron via curl. Why can't you just give your crontab line to your host?

Hello Admin,

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean, and I need a bit of clarification;

1) "Just ask the why the URL you opened in the browser (the one which is used to update the feeds).."

-you mean ask my host why the URL opened in the browser?

 2) "get pinged by cron via curl."

-you mean ask my host why this gets pinged by cron via cURL?

3) "Why can't you just give your crontab line to your host?"

-you mean ask my host to test the crontab line themselves directly?

Regards,
Cyber1

  1. Mean exactly what I said above: ask your host admin why that URL does not get pinged by cron via curl.
  2. Why it doesn't. In other words your cron doesn't work. Or there is some problem with curl (perhaps it's not installed, not well configured, or placed to some different directory).
  3. Exactly. The best way to do it, just to show the crontab line to your host admin and ask why it doesn't work. Just let the professionals do their job.

Hello Admin,

I believe the CRON is working because it emails me the result/URL. Earlier this month when I set up 2-3 sites the RSS feeds were running fine via CRON. But after migrating over 20 sites the feeds stopped running, meaning shows ASAP only, but the CRON is still running because i still receive the CRON email notification.

I have asked my host for help, however, received no reply. Without a specific log or some specific server cpu parameter this does not appear to be a good option. The CRON appears to be running as I receive the email notifications. I believe the issue is running multiple CyberSEO WP sites is server performance related, resources on the 'shared' server cannot handle this amount of activity.

Have you ever 'Performance Tested' the CyberSEO product with example; 10 -15 WP sites & each running 5-10 rss feeds concurrently?

I've since removed the CRON jobs from my host, and set up the URL in a paid external CRON application that calls the URL externally, which seems to work.

*******************************************************************************************

I defer to a newer thread (limit RSS Feeds) where I've asked to 'distribute' RSS feed run times so all don't run at the SAME TIME. This is what I'm seeing on every CyberSEO site I set up.

By 'staggering' RSS feed run times (specifying a 'different' run time interval for each RSS feed) will have a VERY beneficial impact on how host/server resources are consumed and help distribute posts for improved SEO purposes. I urge you to please consider this.. please.

CyberSEO is a great product.. why not improve it that much more? thanks!!!

*******************************************************************************************

sincerely,

cyber1

And this means that the problem was related to your cron. Right?

The CyberSEO plugin allows you to assign individual update period interval to every single feed.

Ive got the same issue now i know cron works fine with curl as ive got another script updating it also uses curl. Im asking my host to look into it. I also get the emails saying the cron was run but the feeds all end up showing asap, running the url in the browser updates them.

Could you clarify the method to assign and individual update period to each feed?

This phrase explains it all. It doesn't matter how exactly the PHP script (WordPress/CyberSEO) is being launched – in browser, by cURL or somehow else. If it updates – it is updates, if not – it is not. Perhaps your cURL server path is different to the suggested one (/usr/bin/curl). If so, the cron really won't update anything. Make sure to ask your host admin about the exact cURL path and modify the crontab line accordingly.

And one more thing. If you are using some caching plugin, make sure to add this line into the "do not" cache URL list:
/?pull-feeds

Let me know if it helps.

To Admin: I am using CyberSyn with W3 Total Cache and can't figure out where to add your suggestion "If you are using some caching plugin, make sure to add this line into the "do not" cache URL list: /?pull-feeds" to the "do not" cache URL list."

I can't even find a list or file to add it. Anyone with experience with W3 Total Cache who can help is appreciated as W3 Total Cache requires a fee for support.

CRON's I set up within my host are triggering on schedule, once per day. I get the email notices but nothing is getting posted to the blog. Another odd thing is the emails contain a full reproduction of my main index template.

I have been using CyberSyn for more than 2 weeks. I call pull posts manually with CyberSyn within my WP Admin, no problem, by clicking "Pull Selected Feeds Now" button but the CRON within my hosting will not post anything.

I hope I have made myself clear. I really want CyberSyn to work so I can consider upgrading to CyberSEO.

Thanks

If your cache plugin doesn't allow to prevent some particular URL from caching, I strongly recommend to replace it by any other. For example, I'm using WP Super Cache which works just fine with the autoblogging plugins (doesn't matter if it CyberSyn or any other).

On the other hand, you may try to contact the W3 Total Cache developers and ask them to fix their product.
